2019 Summer Showcase Preview

Our annual Summer Showcase is coming up Wednesday, July 24th! Mark your calendar because this is one event you don't want to miss.

The purpose of the showcase is to honor and celebrate our youth for all the work they have done throughout the summer. This year, they have been working on improv, sewing, STEAM class projects, and much more! There will be plenty of incredible art, exhibits, and performances on the day of - please come check them out! This art and creative outlet is a method of healing for these kiddos, and we are proud of their efforts, as always.

To start out, we want to share a few lines of poetry written in a creative writing workshop recently. Check them out below!

"When raindrops fell

Down from the sky

The day you left me-

An angel cried."

"I see a ladybug on a leaf.

I miss my girl-

Why’d she leave?

Look at me

The simplicity."

Next up, we have some of the work from a recent workshop at the STEAM studio in Kansas City. The kids had a choice of creating a professional portfolio of some kind, designing a dream space, or making a presentation about an original entrepreneurial idea! According to KC Program Facilitator Alayna Howard, this workshop combines technical, architectural, and creative skills which allow the kids to work with their hands, and set up their own workspace in a professional environment. Below are some examples of what they came up with!
