On Thursday, September 20, HALO hosted its 2nd Annual "I Defy the Odds" Inspiration Breakfast at Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art.
Erin Duba and Holly Mihalovich started the event with a powerful speech describing why they choose to support HALO: "I support HALO because I'm inspired every day by these young people that open themselves to receiving and healing" and "I am involved in HALO because I believe in their mission of helping one more child spend one less day alone." They also shared some startling statistics:
-There are 1.3 million homeless youth in the U.S
-51% of homeless youth were asked to leave home by their caregiver
-Only 30% of homeless youth were given the option to return home
-6,00 kids are homeless in the Kansas City metro area
Founder Rebecca Welsh, inspired us by sharing the journey of Kenyan youth Kelvin and Ugandan youth Mark, and the inspiring ways they are defying the odds. Followed by Kansas City Program Director Carly Manijak presenting special awards for Kansas City youth. View the full program on Facebook Live here or check out the video below:

This breakfast was a celebration of what can happen when you give a child a better vision of themselves. If we surround them with a foundation of a family, then they can overcome the odds stacked against them. But our fight is not over, we need your help to ensure one more child spends one less day alone. To join our movement, you can join The Tribe or visit our wishlist.
