Bringing Girl Scouts to NYC Shelters

You may have seen a feel-good piece in the news lately about a certain Girl Scout troop. Troop 6000 was specifically created for girls living in New York City shelters. We already loved Girl Scout cookies but this initiative makes them even sweeter!

They plan to host meetings every week at shelters across the city. All meetings will be led by women who also live in New York City shelters. These women will be trained troop leaders in charge of planning activities, managing resources, and helping the girls. Through the training program, these women will be empowered to take control and become mentors and teachers fas well as helping them develop communication and organizational skills.

The Girls Scouts of Greater New York believe this program will bring girls living in shelters consistency and community. To learn more click here.
