The Jefferson City HALO Membership Program took an important first step forward, hosting its inaugural membership event and welcoming 35 youth into a space centered on growth, opportunity, and connection.
The HALO Membership Program empowers homeless and at-risk teens to invest in their future success through personal and professional development courses, valuable networking opportunities, and exclusive experiences.
Many teens face challenges that make it difficult to thrive. HALO’s Membership Program provides the structure, encouragement, and resources they need to build resilience, confidence, and lifelong skills. With academic support, life skills training, and continued mentorship beyond high school, HALO ensures that youth not only dream of a brighter future but also have the tools and guidance to achieve it.

A highlight of the day was a guest talk from former professional basketball player Jamaal Tatum. Tatum reflected on the role his upbringing played in shaping his path, crediting a strong family foundation, discipline, and accountability as key influences in his development.
He also offered insight into his experience at the highest level of his sport, including time spent in the NBA alongside LeBron James. Tatum emphasized that success is not defined by duration but by how individuals approach the opportunities in front of them. His message to youth focused on consistency, humility, and the importance of putting in the work regardless of recognition.
In addition to the guest speaker, youth learned about the range of opportunities available to them in the HALO Membership Program, including hands-on learning through the HALO Makers Program, a creative, skills-based initiative where participants craft handmade serving trays while earning money toward their own Maker’s Fund to support future needs like rent, debt, and other life expenses.
The HALO Membership Program also includes access to professional networks, academic support, and guided development in areas such as financial literacy and career readiness. As a long-term support for HALO youth, this program will provide meaningful experiences, supportive relationships, and practical resources that can help build their futures.
