‘Tis The Season to Giveback

Every year, HALO strives to create memories that HALO kids and families will cherish for the rest of their lives. This year, we were able to bring more holiday joy and cheer to the annual HALO Holiday Party by partnering with other members of the Kansas City community.
Kansas City's newest vintage pop-up, Hula Hoop, joined forces with the Youth Volunteer Corps of Kansas City (YVCKC) to bring retail therapy to HALO families through the Giveback Boutique! HALO youth were invited to shop the Hula Hoop Giveback Boutique with their Merry Moolah to purchase numerous items and outfits without the stress of money.
YVCKC youth volunteers, ranging from 11 to 18 years old, participated in the boutique preparation by sorting, organizing, steaming, and tagging donations before the event. Additionally, these youth volunteers joined staff and other volunteers assisting HALO families with their new outfits, finding the correct sizes, wrapping their gifts, and checking them out at the Hula Hoop register!
HALO families and kids went from the Giveback Boutique to the next station - a hot chocolate bar! Everyone shared the warmth of having a nice cup of hot chocolate with loads of marshmallows.
Apex Systems sponsored the event! HALO youth joined Apex volunteers at the cookie decorating station. From icing to candy eyes, HALO kids loved being creative with a treat they ate or saved to give to someone else!
Greeted by HALO volunteers, HALO continued the tradition of the gift-wrapping station. Here, HALO kids and families could pick out one gift for themselves and one for a loved one. Volunteers taught HALO youth how to wrap a present and the important skill of giving back!
And we can't forget our special guest! Santa came to talk with HALO kids about what they wanted for Christmas, passed out candy canes straight from the North Pole, and took pictures with HALO families so that they could remember this holiday season with a professional family photo!
The holiday season for HALO youth in Kansas City would not have been as magical without all the support from the entire Kansas City community.

A huge thank you to Apex Systems for sponsoring the Holiday Party and providing dinner and cookies for the HALO families. Another big thank you to Hula Hoop and Youth Volunteer Corps of Kansas City for organizing the Giveback Boutique, hot chocolate station, and Santa appearance! Thank you, Kimberly Easter Photography, for capturing the smiles on everyone's faces throughout the party. Thank you to the congregation at Commons Church, Mandy Frey, and The Woods of Cherry Creek Apartments for providing 24 kids with presents from their wish lists this year. And lastly, thank you to all the volunteers who showed up for HALO Kids, showing them that love truly heals, especially during the holiday season.

You can bring a smile to a HALO kid's face this holiday season by volunteering at HALO in 2024!
It's the people who are in our youths' lives that make the biggest impact.
