Everyone can remember a trusted adult who took the time to teach them something meaningful. Maybe it was baking cookies with your grandparents, planting a garden with a neighbor, or spending an afternoon working on a car with your uncle. Those moments often become cherished memories, not just because of what was created, but because of who was there alongside you.
At HALO, our volunteers are those trusted adults. They share their time, talents, and encouragement, creating experiences that help our youth build confidence, learn new skills, and discover what is possible when someone believes in them.
Recently, longtime volunteer Julie Arnold partnered with Ayana, Malcolm, and KJ to create new flower beds at HALO. Throughout the project, they demonstrated teamwork, creativity, and a strong work ethic. They embraced the opportunity to contribute to their community and showed a genuine commitment to making HALO a better place for everyone who lives here.
After working on the beds, Ayana shared, "I am so proud of what we accomplished, and it made my day."
Julie's leadership and encouragement helped make the experience both meaningful and rewarding for everyone. We are incredibly proud of the dedication these young people showed and grateful to Julie for investing her time and talents. Projects like this help build confidence, encourage responsibility, and create opportunities for youth to see the positive difference they can make.
The flower beds are located at the front of both homes in Kansas City, where nearly 40 residents will enjoy watching the flowers grow throughout the seasons. It serves as a lasting reminder of the power of collaboration and the impact that volunteers and youth can have when they work together to strengthen our community.
