Hello from the Bukesa boys! The boys had a great month, getting settled back into the busy routine of the home. The mentors started of February by setting expectations for the month, including academic, hygienic, behavioral, and so on. The boys are serious about improving the home this and have created schedules for a weekly menu, chores, study time, etc.
Bukesa also had their first weekly visit from the new tutor. Juliana will be visiting Bukesa, Lungujja and Mengo each Sunday to work with the primary students to specifically improve their English comprehension. This will help the youth excel in other subjects too, as they will be able to read and understand the questions in class.
Health has improved great in Bukesa from the start of the year. The home received fourteen new mosquito nets, a First Aid box and the water filter was repaired. Someone had accidentally poured water in the filter that had a bit of soap in it, so the water was not safe to drink. Luckily, our nurse Wilter came to the rescue and the boys once again have access to safe drinking water. The First Aid box is now a permanent fixture in the living room. The home now has access to medications, disinfectants, Band-Aids and other necessities. It is clear the improvements have made a difference as there have been no cases of Malaria or Typhoid in Bukesa Home this month!
Three weekends this month the boys attended classes at the Learning Center. The sessions were focused on learning how to make pizza, popcorn and biscuits. The boys enjoyed wearing the new chef hats and aprons provided and got very into the lessons. The particularly enjoyed the end products!
The counselor focused on individual sessions this month, diving more into family histories and relationship issues boys may have, whether it be friends or in the home.
