Community Outreach Success Stories

Juma is a 22-year-old who lives in Lungujja. He lost his parents at a very young age causing him to grow up on his own and miss out on formal education. He developed amazing musical talents at a young age and found his love for drumming. This love of drumming got him a job as a musical instrumentalist playing for one of the NGOs in the Wakiso district. It provided him a reliable source of income right until the country locked down in March 2020. Things soon became hard for Juma and he felt extremely lost and hopeless without any source of income. Later on, he learned about the Outreach Program from a friend who happened to be part of the program at the Uganda Learning Center. He began going to seek counseling. Soon after, he decided to get involved with group and entrepreneurship counseling which changed everything for him. Juma then started his own business in Kosovo, and this enabled him to meet his basic needs. Now Juma plans to expand his business to other locations and for more profits. Juma says, "If it wasn't for this program, I do not think I would have made it. Thank you to our sponsors, HALO." Juma we are so proud of you!
