Nelson-Atkins Visit

On Monday, July 22, the HALO team gathered the HALO youth and volunteers/staff to explore the Nelson-Atkins Museum for a day. One of our HALO volunteers planned a scavenger hunt for the kids to explore art pieces and connect with different emotions displayed in the art. After the scavenger hunt, they enjoyed a fun picnic outside the museum.

Community Building

The scavenger hunt focused on finding art pieces that resembled a specific emotion. The kids learned about the perception of art and how different colors, shapes, and structures can evoke emotions and self-expression. They were able to learn from the artists and understand the significance of the paintings and sculptures. Witnessing this artwork helps our youth learn that art is a way to express emotions without using words and allows them to see real examples of things they learn in our Learning Center Workshops.

Our volunteers play a huge role in organizing events and forming relationships with our kids.
